SUMMARY:Spring 2026 Digital Accessibility Series: Developing Accessible Emails
DESCRIPTION:Audience: Beginner \nThis workshop series is geared toward faculty and staff members with a basic knowledge of sound digital accessibility practices. The workshops will include hands-on activities that align with accessibility learning modules developed by the CTLI over the past several months and participants are encouraged to review the applicable modules prior to each scheduled session. \nDeveloping Accessible Emails Workshop \nThis workshop\, which is being held on April 13th at 12:00p\, focuses on the development of accessible emails. DESCRIPTION:As educators\, we want to do our jobs well. We want to be fair\, we want to promote safe communities\, and we want to support all our students in every aspect of their lives. Tools help us realize these goals that we already have.\n \n\n\n Educators\, even those with experience and compassion\, may unconsciously negatively impact students in their classrooms. We believe that through consistent study and reflection\, we can slowly address our own unconscious biases and make changes so we can better support the academic\, social and emotional well-being of our students.\n \n\n\n We want YOU to be part of a decentralized inquiry series to support educators to better explore their own biases and improve their own teaching practices.\n \n\n\n This Reading and Inquiry Series provides a monthly set of tools for learning\, introspection and having conversations about issues of racism in our university\, classrooms and communities. We hope that through regular reflection and conversation\, you can get better at recognizing and resisting your biases and the impact they have on your students and colleagues. \n\n \nTo receive a calendar invitation\, Zoom link\, and access to the Canvas space\, please fill out the Vermont State Colleges Building Anti-Racist Educators Sign-Up Form. SUMMARY:Spring 2026 Series on Writing & Generative AI: An Emphasis on Learning while Writing with AI: Transparency\, Accountability\, & Innovation
DESCRIPTION:Audience: AI Experimenters  \nIt can be easy to get caught up in concerns about students abusing generative AI to the point that the purpose of assignments – learning – can start to get lost. At the same time\, helping students understand boundaries\, expectations\, and guardrails around generative AI is realistic and important in order for students to be able to demonstrate their learning. Clearly defined policies and processes regarding generative AI usage can help alleviate student and faculty anxiety and create an environment in which to teach students how and when to use generative AI in responsible\, ethical\, and effective ways. SUMMARY:Motivating Online Students: Practical Strategies for a One-Hour Course Tune-Up
DESCRIPTION:Studies of online learning show that timely\, authentic instructor feedback and visible participation in discussions are associated with higher engagement\, stronger sense of belonging\, and improved academic performance for online students. In addition\, evidence related to “authentic” or real‑world tasks also indicates that students are more motivated when they can see how course concepts apply to their professional\, personal\, or community contexts. \nDrawing on these findings\, participants will work with concrete examples and leave the session with ready-to-use elements they can integrate into an upcoming course. \nFollowing this session\, participants will be able to: \n*Evaluate student motivation techniques and determine methods that could work well in their online courses. \n*Implement strategies for addressing student wellness in online classes\, such as brief check-ins and normalizing help seeking\, in ways that reduce anxiety and foster a greater sense of safety\, belonging and motivation. \n*Create a simple\, sustainable plan for responding to students that outlines how often you will reply\, the tone you will use\, and the length of your communications. \n*Explain how aligning assignments with a clear real world\, workplace\, or community application can significantly increase students’ motivation by helping them see the relevance and value of what they are learning. \nFacilitated By: Lisa Hayward\, AVP for Online Program Administration and Jeff Tunney\, Associate Director\, Center for Teaching & Learning Innovation. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease register for this event. When you do\, you will receive an automatic email from the CTLI confirming your registration.
