Authentic Assessment: Designing Assignments for Motivation and Learning
Description:
This one-hour Zoom workshop introduces participants to authentic assessment as a strategy for increasing student motivation, engagement, and meaningful learning.
Attendees will examine how traditional assessments can unintentionally discourage deep learning and explore how assignments aligned with real-world scenarios or problems can foster student agency and sustained motivation.
Learning Objectives:
- Differentiate between traditional and authentic assessment.
- Explain how authentic assessment design supports student motivation.
- Determine the types of authentic assessments that align well with their discipline and courses.
- Redesign an existing course assessment with authentic assessment principles in mind.
