Collaborative Learning: Increasing Student Motivation and Engagement Through Peer Instruction
Description:
This one-hour Zoom workshop introduces participants to peer instruction as a high‑impact teaching strategy for increasing student motivation, engagement, and learning.
Attendees will explore how intentionally designed and facilitated peer-to-peer discussions can promote active learning, deepen understanding, and foster a sense of student belonging.
The session will focus on practical strategies for designing effective ConcepTest questions and mini-lectures, facilitating productive discussions, and responding to common challenges such as uneven participation.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the key features of effective peer instruction and explain how it supports student motivation and engagement.
- Develop ConcepTest questions and mini-lectures to support peer instruction activities.
- Develop facilitation strategies for integrating peer instruction into their teaching practice.
- Identify common challenges related to the use of peer instruction.
