The Art and Learning Science of Vibrant Discussion Boards

April 22 @ 12:15 pm - 1:15 pm

This workshop will focus on discussions in asynchronous online classes.

Are you (or the students) uninspired and bored by the weekly discussion boards in your online courses? Do you ever find yourself avoiding responding to the student posts? If so, you are not alone. Join your colleagues in a lively journey into the world of online adult learners and consider implementing high impact practices that make online learning fun, interactive, and academically rewarding.

This session explores ways to create vibrant and engaging online discussions that spark connections between students, instructors, course content and real world experiences. We’ll dive into the art of creating dynamic prompts that are informed by adult learning theory, and that boost student wellness and academic achievement.

What You’ll Gain:
· Create discussion prompts that foster student engagement through adult learning theory.
· Identify the intersection of student wellness, engagement, and academic achievement through effective discussion board prompts.
· Look forward to a new sense of engaging with, and providing thoughtful responses to student contributions in your online discussion boards.
