Spring 2026 Series on Writing & Generative AI: An Emphasis on Learning while Writing with AI: Transparency, Accountability, & Innovation

April 27 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Audience: AI Experimenters

It can be easy to get caught up in concerns about students abusing generative AI to the point that the purpose of assignments – learning – can start to get lost. At the same time, helping students understand boundaries, expectations, and guardrails around generative AI is realistic and important in order for students to be able to demonstrate their learning. Clearly defined policies and processes regarding generative AI usage can help alleviate student and faculty anxiety and create an environment in which to teach students how and when to use generative AI in responsible, ethical, and effective ways. During this session, we’ll explore, together, ideas for engaging students in written assignments that uphold academic integrity, appropriately/innovatively use generative AI, and emphasize the assignment’s learning objectives.

Presented By: Jen Garrett-Ostermiller, CTLI Director and Elise Wallace, Castleton Writing Coordinator
